A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22
Only days ago we visited our son, Erik, in Iraqi Kurdistan in an Internally Displaced Persons camp of 90,000 ethnic Yazidis. The Yazidis are bereft of their homes, their land, and many family members after a genocide attempt by ISIS. We saw children all over the camp huddled in circles playing in the sand with marbles, dominoes and other games. These children have heard and seen horrific things. Their resilience is amazing. The parents are trying not to despair. Seeing their children´s joy at play, plus the opening of a school that our son and others have started, has been good medicine for their crushed spirits.
